It is important to recognize that today's youth, particularly those who come from underprivileged backgrounds, may not have access to the same level of information and guidance as others. During a recent CUET workshop in a government school, many students expressed their lack of knowledge about different universities, courses, and entrance exams. Some even believed that the University of Delhi was a single college rather than a cluster of colleges under various campuses.
As someone who was once in a similar position, I understand the value of mentorship from an experienced senior. It is crucial for students to receive guidance and support in navigating their academic and professional journeys.
To summarize, here are some key points that I think students should be aware of :
Different universities and courses: There are numerous universities and courses across India, apart from Delhi University. Students should explore their options and research which universities and courses align with their interests and career goals.
Entrance exams: There are various entrance exams for different courses and universities that students should be aware of, such as JEE, NEET, IPMAT, and CLAT, among others.
Societies in college: College societies play an important role in personal and professional development. Students should be familiar with the different societies in their college and their activities.
Basic skills required: To join a society, there are basic skills that students should possess, such as communication, teamwork, and leadership.
Internships and E-courses: Students should take advantage of internships and E-courses during the gap between getting into college and waiting for results to enhance their skills and gain practical experience.
It is essential to note that these points are not exhaustive, but they are essential for students who are planning to join a college or university. Being aware of these can help them grab better opportunities and make the most of their college experience.
