Ikigai – The Japanese concept to a happier and meaningful life hit the books stands way back in 2017 and took the world by storm. The book and its famous Venn diagram still hold relevance today.
Ikigai roughly translated to – your purpose of being. It’s the reason we get up in the morning.
By loving what you do – you never work a day in your life. When you find that one thing that overlaps all these 4 aspects ( Venn diagram) – that sweet center spot is your ikigai.
Your purpose of being.
This process of self- discovery begins with a 4 circle Venn diagram.( refer to the pic above) where you ask yourself hard questions.
Start filling in each of the quadrants by answering the following questions in order.
1.What you love:
· Something you have always been drawn to and never get bored of.
2.What you are good at:
· Skills that you often practice and something that people come to you for help with.
3.What you can be paid for:
· Think of a career path that you want to be paid for.
4.What the world needs.
· Think of the community around you. How can you contribute to create a positive impact?
Now you find one thing that is common to all these 4 spheres.
That is your Ikigai. It’s what you are excited about, what gets you up and running and fulfils your creative desire.
Don’t worry if you don’t immediately find your answer. This chart can be filled whenever you find the need to.
Ikigai is a process. It’s a path to self-discovery.
