ICC Assures Comprehensive Security Plan Amid T20 World Cup Terror Threat
The ICC and Cricket West Indies have affirmed the implementation of a "comprehensive and robust security plan" for the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup following reports of a potential terror threat to the event. This assurance comes after Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley acknowledged the monitoring of security agencies in the West Indies regarding the perceived threat.
In response to the concerns raised, Rowley emphasized the constant vigilance required in today's world against terrorism and acknowledged the challenges of completely mitigating such risks during large gatherings. However, he reiterated the dedication of local and regional intelligence and security agencies to safeguarding the population across tournament venues.
The joint statement by the ICC and CWI underlined their collaboration with host country authorities to assess and address security risks effectively. Stressing that safety is their top priority, the statement assured stakeholders of the meticulous security arrangements in place for the Men's T20 World Cup, scheduled from June 1 to 29 across venues in the West Indies and the USA.
With the tournament featuring 20 teams and matches spread across nine venues, including six in the West Indies and three in the USA, the organizers remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for players, officials, and spectators alike. The final match is slated to take place in Barbados, highlighting the significance of these security measures in light of recent security concerns.
The proactive approach by the ICC and CWI underscores their readiness to confront and manage potential security threats, underscoring their commitment to hosting a successful and secure Men's T20 World Cup amidst heightened global security challenges.
