Ohh 😮
I believe that "Impulse" is one of the best shows I've watched in recent years. It is a spin-off/sequel to the 2008 Sci-Fi action- adventure movie called 'Jumper" which starred Hayden Christensen & Samuel L. Jackson. It centered on a young man who had the ability to teleport or 'jump" to other places. Samuel L. Jackson plays the sadistic leader of an extreme religious order that is determined to hunt down 'Jumpers & kill them. The movie was based on Steven Gould's "Jumper" book series & was adapted to the big screen by director Doug Liman, famous for the Bourne movies as well as "Mr. & Mrs. Smith".
However, upon release, 'Jumper" was met with negative reviews, despite making $221 million dollars worldwide against an $85 million dollar budget. Despite this failure, Doug Liman still saw the potential in making a big franchise out of "Jumper" as he had ideas for at least two more movies. When Liman got the option to adapt "Impulse", the third book in the "Jumper" series, he knew that this was his chance to do the universe right this time, as he has felt that he made mistakes with the movie & adapting the "Jumper" universe to a TV series seemed to be the right move & it appears to have paid off. Even though "Impulse" takes place in the same universe as the "Jumper" film, it is as different from the movie as night & day as it follows a female "Jumper" named Henry who's power to "jump" is triggered by a traumatic event that changes her life forever. What follows is a journey of self discovery for Henry. Another way that it's different from the film is that it's more of an intimate character study than an action flick, but the war between the "Jumpers" & the "Palidens" is still being fought far off in the background. What's fascinating is how the Paliden Group comes across here in "Impulse" as more of a genuine threat than they ever did in the movie as they don't just want to kill "Jumpers", but also have this desire to harness this power for themselves.
