Manchester City’s struggles in attack come after the club sold Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus last summer and Ferran Torres at the start of last year. The Club never replaced acquired a direct replacement for Ferran Torres and replaced Raheem Sterling with Julian Alvarez, but the Argentine forward isn’t a direct relacement for Sterling.
This squad planning has left the club with just three first-team wide players with Phil Foden being the only direct winger at the club while Mahrez and Grealish favour holding the ball and slowing down the temp of the game. In comparison, when Manchester City won the league in the 2017-18 season Pep favoured the direct duo of Leroy Sane and Sterling in his attack.
With just three first-team wide players this leaves City two injuries away from being in crisis mode in attack as they’re short by one winger. The title race is far from over with Guardiola yet to play league leaders Arsenal, and the Gunners looking very formidable, City’s lack of offensive depth might cost their title fight when the fixtures come in thick and fast.
