Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming Harry Potter game which has become one of the most anticipated games of 2023 and has generated much excitement has finally released its launch trailer before its release. The trailer showcases the environment of the game, as well as sets up some of the action and danger that players can expect to encounter in the magical school.
The game had been the target of a great controversy and witnessed boycott calls from people due to Harry Potter author J.K Rowling’s infamous anti-trans rhetoric. This caused Warner Bros. to distance itself from the author who said that Rowling was "not directly involved in the creation of the game." As things proceed, it seems like Hogwarts Legacy is likely to become one of the most successful games of 2023.
At the start of the trailer, we are told: “In light of your unique situation, joining us as a fifth year, we’ve devised something extraordinary to ensure your success” before the main character is shown an enchanted book, which is likely to be the Wizard's Field Guide or some kind of tome to help us with our objectives.
The game takes place in the 1890s, a hundred years before the events of the Harry Potter books where players enter Hogwarts as a fifth-year student learning different spells such as the Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, encounters against magical creatures and more.
In addition to exploring the castle and learning spells, players will venture beyond the castle walls where they are likely to face off against unknown dangers. The player character has the rare ability to see "whispers of ancient magic," and this informs their journey.
Hogwarts Legacy is all set to release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on February 10, 2023, while for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the release date has been slightly delayed and has instead been set to April 4. For Nintendo Switch players however, their wait is even longer as the release date for their platform has been set for July 25.
