The heat is soaring in the national capital, the maximum temperature in Delhi has hovered close to the 40-degree mark, settling just below it, for the past two days.
The maximum temperature on Thursday was 39 degrees Celsius, three degrees above the normal for this time of the year, at the Safdarjung weather station, the city’s base observatory. This was 39.1 degrees on Wednesday, which is the highest that Delhi has recorded so far this summer at Safdarjung.
The highest maximum temperature recorded on Thursday was 40.1 degrees in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh, followed by 39.5 degrees at Pitampura.
The minimum temperature early on Thursday was 19.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal.
Meanwhile, respite is expected over the weekend, going by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.
An IMD bulletin issued on Thursday said that two western disturbances along with “high moisture feeding” from the Arabian Sea into northwest India could bring thunderstorms, rain and strong winds to the region.
The weather department has also issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi for the weekend, which is a warning to ‘be aware’. A thunderstorm or dust storm along with strong winds of 35 to 45 kmph, is expected in Delhi on Saturday, while light rain, thundershowers and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph are on the forecast for Sunday, as reported by IndianExpress.
The maximum temperature is expected to fall from 38 degrees on Saturday to 33 degrees on Sunday, according to the IMD.
While the maximum temperature is set to remain at around 33 degrees on Monday, it could climb back up to around 37 degrees by the middle of next week.
