I recently read The Kite Runner and it was such a heartbreaking story. Here's my review:
“For you, a thousand times over”
A gripping and emotional tale of love, betrayals and redemption, The Kite Runner is masterfully crafted and perfectly executed tale. It is a story about Amir, the son of a rich businessman and Hassan, the son of his servant. Set in Kabul, the story explores their beautiful friendship scarred by the betrayals faced on the day of the kite flying tournament.
Left with harrowing guilt and the sudden change in the politics in Afghanistan, Amir and his father are forced to flee to America. The Kite Runner, then becomes the story of Amir’s redemption- his quest of undoing his wrongs and finding the way to be good again.
This book was my first experience with Khaled Hosseini’s writing and, no doubt, he left me weeping at the end. The story was so beautifully constructed and the characters had just the right amount of depth to them. His ability to portray the casualties in the wartime with utmost honesty will make every reader feel its raw emotions and take this rollercoaster journey in a sitting or two.
