In a historic event set to shape the electoral narrative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Monday. The consecration ceremony of the infant god Ram, or Ram Lalla, will mark the culmination of a week-long series of rituals, involving 121 priests chanting Sanskrit hymns and performing Vedic rites.
As Ayodhya decks itself in flowers and prepares for the momentous occasion, thousands, including celebrities from various fields, have gathered for the ceremony. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust promises a majestic 'mangal dhwani' at 10 am, with over 50 instruments from different states contributing to the auspicious atmosphere.
The pran-pratishtha ceremony, starting at 12:20 pm, will see the 51-inch stone idol by sculptor Arun Yogiraj officially enthroned at the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Temple. The event is attended by representatives of major spiritual and religious sects, along with people from diverse backgrounds.
Ayodhya's transformation is evident in widened roads, polished footpaths, and adorned buildings, reflecting the significance of this cultural and religious milestone. Indian Air Force helicopters rehearsed flower showers over the temple, enhancing the ceremonial atmosphere.
The temple, built in the Nagara style of architecture, boasts 392 columns, 44 doors (14 gilded in gold), and additional shrines at each corner of the circumambulation path. Deviating from traditional practices, the temple's foundation incorporates a 14-meter-thick layer of roller-compacted concrete without any use of iron.
The elaborate decoration involves over 3,000 kg of flowers, showcasing more than 20 varieties. The idol, bathed with sacred water from 114 urns, has undergone daily worship, havan, and chanting leading up to the culmination of the pran-pratishtha ceremony.
Notable film stars, including Rajnikanth and Kangana Ranaut, have arrived for the event, contributing to the grandeur of the occasion. The ceremony symbolizes not just the opening of a temple but a pivotal moment in India's cultural and political landscape.
