Admitting that his season at Tottenham has been "sh*t," Richarlison has criticised Antonio Conte for benching him in a Champions League match against AC Milan.
After winning their group, Tottenham was drawn against AC Milan in the round of 16, where they still had a chance to advance thanks to Brahim Diaz's first-leg winner. Yet in a dismal night in north London, they failed to score again, Cristian Romero was sent off, and they lost 1-0 overall.
Richarlison, an Everton summer acquisition, only saw action for 20 minutes in either leg. The Brazil international expressed his displeasure following the elimination. Under Conte, he has had difficulty getting minutes and goals.
"This season has been s***, excuse the pun, because I don't have minutes, and I suffered a little with the injury." Richarlison stated to TNT Sports (via ESPN Brasil ). "When I enter the field, however, I give my life. I came from two games, and I believe that's it; I believe I should have played, and I don't have to cry about it."
He expressed surprise at being dropped to the bench after starting in victories over West Ham and Chelsea. Son Heung-min came on in place of the Brazilian in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Wolves and was retained against Milan.
"They asked me to take a test at the gym yesterday [Tuesday], that if I was good, I would go to the game, and at the time of the game, they left me on the bench," he claimed after the game on Wednesday. "These are things that cannot be comprehended.
"Let's see what he will say tomorrow, but there are no fools here either, I'm a professional, I work every day and I want to play. There are minutes and seconds left."
Was Antonio Conte correct to bench him in such an important game, in your opinion?
