Dinkar Gupta, 1987 batch IPS officer and former chief of Punjab police, has been put on offer list for central deputation. Gupta was removed as police chief after Captain Amarinder Singh was forced to leave the post of chief minister following a dictate from Congress high command. Gupta went on leave after his removal as police chief and the state government appointed him as head of Punjab Police Housing Corporation.
Offer list is basically a list those officers whose name have been cleared by the state government for central government and if suitable vacancy comes up at the centre, only officers from list are appointed to fill the vacancy.
So it clear that the Punjab government now headed by Charanjit Singh Channi has no problem with Gupta being given a job at the centre. A consent from the respective state government is required before the name of the officer is added to the offer list.
Gupta has earlier served at the centre on deputation in Intelligence Bureau for over 8 years.
Now its upto the centre to appoint Gupta as there are still a vacancy or two at the director general level. Gupta has service left till January, 2024.
Gupta's wife Vini Mahajan is an IAS officer and former chief secretary of Punjab. She too was removed from post after Amarinder Singh's departure. Both husband and wife were Singh's appointees. Mahajan has service upto to October, 31, 2024.
