Amid politicians quitting BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) figure and former Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan revealed on Sunday his decision to step away from politics and re-embrace his original profession in the medical field.
Representing Delhi's Chandni Chowk constituency as an MP, he made this choice following the party's decision not to grant him a ticket for re-election from his constituency. Through a post on social media platform X, he conveyed his intention to resume his practice at the ENT clinic situated in Krishna Nagar.
He conveyed that following a remarkable electoral career spanning more than three decades, where he emerged victorious in all five assembly and two parliamentary elections he contested with substantial margins, and served in numerous esteemed roles within the party organization and state and central governments, he has chosen to step back and return to his origins.
He expressed that his motto upon joining MBBS at GSVM Medical College, Kanpur fifty years ago was to serve humanity, particularly the impoverished and disadvantaged. With a deep commitment to the principles of Deen Dayal Upadhyay ji's Antodaya philosophy, emphasizing service to the most marginalized, he acknowledged his alignment with the ethos as a swayamsewak. He mentioned that it was upon the encouragement of the RSS leadership at the time that he entered the realm of politics. He clarified that his decision was rooted in his belief that politics presented an opportunity to combat the three principal adversaries: poverty, disease, and ignorance.
"Without remorse, I must say that it has been a marvelous innings during which my passion to serve the common man was quenched. I served as Delhi Health Minister as well as twice Union Health Minister, a subject close to my heart. I had the rare opportunity bestowed upon me to be able to first work towards creating a Polio free Bharat and then to take care of the health of millions of our countrymen grappling with the dreaded COVID-19 during its first and second phases," Dr Harsh Vardhan wrote on X.
