One of the most experienced members of the English squad both at the club and national level, Raheem Sterling has been in the England squad since the year 2012 when he joined as a 19-year-old youngster who was ready to take the World by storm. His speed and agility, combined with his fearless nature, put him on the radar of many big English teams even though he was playing for Liverpool. After playing for Manchester City, he moved to Chelsea last summer and has started slowly in London.
Current Form
Raheem Sterling’s move to Chelsea hasn’t been going according to plan, as he has seen the coach who signed him get sacked barely a month into his arrival. Since then, the new coach has deployed several different tactical setups, which has seen Sterling being played in an unfamiliar wing-back position. This has limited his ability to perform in positions where he can hurt opponents directly with his speed and dribbling. Although he has managed five goals and two assists in all competitions, his performances haven’t inspired confidence in fans.
World Cup record
This will be Sterling’s 3rd World Cup appearance for England, playing eight games across both tournaments. He’ll be looking to make it “3rd time lucky” going into this new tournament with renewed hope. Although he has 19 goals for England, now of them have come at the World Cup. However, two of his 26 assists have come in the competition.
Club Career
Sterling started his career at Liverpool, part of the famous Liverpool side that almost won the league in 2014. His subsequent brilliant performances for the Reds led to his winning the Golden Boy award. Sterling departed the Reds for Manchester City, where he won four Premier League titles, the FA Cup and multiple league titles. Currently, he plays for Chelsea, having moved in the summer. Sterling has made 509 career appearances scoring 167 goals and recording 132 assists.
