Nick Pope has been a household name in the English Premier League for over five years, playing for one of the most defensive sides the league has ever seen in the Premier League era. He moved to Burnley in 2016 and has shown his quality ever since. He’s a traditional goalkeeper that commands his area and focuses more on shot-stopping than ball distribution.
Current Form
Nick Pope has been a mainstay in the resurgent Newcastle side that has looked unplayable for most of the season, keeping the joint-highest number of clean sheets, seven in the Premier League this season, as well as conceding the joint least number of goals in the league this season, eleven.
He's played a massive part in this, making 43 saves, although conceding the one penalty he has faced.
World Cup
Nick Pope was part of the England World Cup squad that reached the semi-final of the last World Cup in 2018. Although he played zero matches at that tournament, he's gone on to play several qualifying games for England for both World Cup and the Euros.
His experience as a player first and as a member of the England squad going into the World Cup will be massive for the team to ensure that there will be little or no drop-off in case anything happens to their first-choice goalkeeper.
Club Career
Nick Pope made his name at Burnley after making a lot of big saves to keep them in the League. He was critical to their eight-place finish a few seasons ago and was called up to the English set-up following impressive displays for the club. Following the relegation of Burnley last season, Pope joined Newcastle and has been a crucial player ever since. In his 269 appearances, Pope has kept 105 clean sheets.
