Kieran Trippier has been one of England’s best and most consistent players since he came into the limelight as a Tottenham player in 2015. The 32-year-old Newcastle player can be deployed on the left and right full-back roles. He has been the driving force behind Newcastle’s sudden resurgence under their new owners, combining his experience and leadership ability with his quality in defence and attack- set piece proficiency inclusive- helping to give Newcastle a new identity. Trippier has delivered for England whenever he has been called upon and would be the first name on the team sheet for their first game of the tournament against Iran.
Current Form
The Newcastle captain has been in great form this season, keeping the joint most clean sheets in the league, scoring one goal and providing three assists. He’s been indisputably the best right back in the league this season and one of the most straightforward choices Southgate might have to make in this competition.
World Cup record
Kieran Trippier was a part of the England squad that got to the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup, where he played all seven games and was named as a part of the team of the tournament. He scored one goal and provided one assist in that tournament. He hopes to move closer to clinching the trophy off the back of the last edition’s performances.
Club Career
Trippier gained the attention of the English media after his display for Burnely in the 2014-15 season. Despite being relegated, he was one of the star performers for the club and earned a move to Tottenham. At Tottenham, he became much better and owned his skill before a move to Atletico Madrid. Tripper spent three seasons in Spain before returning to England to play for Newcastle. He has made 466 appearances in all competitions scoring 13 goals and recording 81 assists.
