Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai has taken the initiative to commence constructing the road connecting Cumbarjua to Gaundalim Bridge at his own cost.
The work was inaugurated by the MLA on Monday after laying the foundation stone.
Faldessai said that this work was one of the tasks he had intended to complete after getting elected as MLA.
He said that he held a meeting with the farmers seeking their support for the work. He said that farmers are always supportive and willing to back such works for the benefit of the village.
He decided to take up the work on his own so that it can be completed before monsoon.
“This link will benefit the villagers of Cumbarjua. Looking at the importance of this road, I decided to pour my own funds for the work. People have to travel an additional 4 kms through Madapai, but now with this road work, it will cut short that distance and provide direct access to Gaundalim bridge. This will end their troubles I have assured the farmers that whatever land they are losing, I will compensate them by 4 times the value,” said Rajesh.
While Cumbarjua Sarpanch Nandakumar Shet said that the road work was pending since long.
“The Cumbarjua-Gaundalim bridge was inaugurated in 2016. However, work on the road could not be taken up. But now, our dynamic MLA has come forward to complete this work at his own cost. We thank him for taking up this project which will be a boon for travellers. The work entails not just hot-mixing, but all together construction of a new road by filling up around 20 ft height in the fields and asphalting,”said Nandakumar.
“We have to also construct side protection walls for the road. We hope that he continues working for the development of the village. It takes a big heart to spend money, he has been doing so for the past 20 years. We hope he becomes a minister in future to carry out more development works,” he added.
