East Bengal 1-0 Chennaiyin: Are CFC's Playoff Qualification Chances Over?
Chennaiyin FC suffered another loss in their 2023/24 Indian Super League campaign last night. The Marina Machans were beaten 1-0 by East Bengal courtesy of a Nandhakumar Sekar goal and this means that their playoff hopes seem to be over, at least by the looks of it!
Owen Coyle's side is currently 10th in the league table after 16 games played. Chennaiyin have a record of 4 wins, 3 draws, and 9 losses from their season so far and with games against Odisha, Mohun Bagan, and Goa coming up, playoff hopes seem all but over.
In-form Jamshedpur FC currently occupy the 6th spot with 20 points from 17 league games and they are closely followed by Northeast United (19 pts) and East Bengal (18 pts). Chennaiyin will face Jamshedpur and Northeast United at the Marina Arena in the next few match weeks however given their current form, a win from either game looks unlikely.
Chennaiyin will welcome Odisha this Sunday before facing Hyderabad next weekend before the international break. Nothing less than 6 points will do so it has to be seen if Owen Coyle's side can create some sort of magic at home to salvage their season.
