Dr Shiv Kumar Sarin is a gastroenterologist , herpetologist, translation scientist and teacher with a benevolent heart to serve people relentlessly. He was a Professor and Head of Gastroenterology in G. B. Pant Hospital and faculty of Molecular Medicine in JNU, Delhi. He founded the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences-ILBS, recently designated as the first WHO Collaborative Center globally. His pioneering work on gastric varices named it as Sarin's Classification of Gastric Varices.

HIS Contribution to Healthcare Landscape in India ;

* One of the initiators of Hepatitis B vaccination in India.
* Analyses of Portal Biliopathy, Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure, mother-baby transmission of Hepatitis B, chronic HBV infection and liver cancer.
* Nineteen major treatment protocols including six Asian Pacific guidelines in liver disease.
* Thirteen books on hepatology, 87 chapters to medical texts and over 350 articles published in The New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet and Annals of Internal Medicine.

* As Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India developed the "Vision 2015" document for medical education in India.
