Did your baby girl have a pseudo period?
It is actually pretty common and pretty normal. You may have freaked out the first time you saw some blood in your newborns nappy - wondering why she is bleeding. It can be a scary sight. So let's explain the WHY.
In uteri your little one is exposed to lots of hormones from you. When she is born the withdrawal of these hormones in her system can cause a small bleed (pseudo menstruation). It is nothing to worry about. It happens in about 3-5% of newborns, in the first 10 days of life with the most common occurrence on day 5 post birth. Baby girls can also experience a white discharge or swollen labia due to this hormone exposure too! The bloody discharge can last anything from a day to 10 days. If it persists or becomes worse/has a bad odor or is accompanied by any other symptoms go and see your paediatrician.
