Dew Factor Impacts CSK's Spinners in Defeat Against LSG
In a thrilling encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off the highest successful chase in IPL history against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad attributed their loss to excess dew, which affected their spinners' performance.
Despite setting a formidable target of 211, CSK struggled to contain LSG's batting onslaught, especially in the latter stages of the match. Gaikwad highlighted the significant role played by dew, which hampered the effectiveness of CSK's spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali. The duo could only bowl half of their allotted overs as dew made gripping the ball challenging.
Shivam Dube's explosive innings of 66 off 27 balls injected momentum into CSK's innings, but Gaikwad clarified that Dube's batting position was part of their predetermined strategy. He emphasized the importance of sticking to their plans, especially after losing early wickets.
While Dube expressed confidence in CSK's total at the halfway mark, Gaikwad admitted that he felt the target was just about par given the prevailing dew conditions. Despite CSK's efforts, LSG's Marcus Stoinis' unbeaten 124 guided them to victory with three balls to spare.
KL Rahul, the captain of LSG, hailed the victory as "super special," attributing it to Stoinis' exceptional batting display. He praised Stoinis for his smart batting approach, which proved crucial in their successful chase.
With this defeat, CSK slipped to fifth place on the points table, while LSG climbed to fourth, highlighting the competitiveness of the IPL 2024 season.
