Manchester United have officially approached Jason Wilcox, Southampton's director of football, according to reports from the PA news agency. This move comes as part of Ineos taking over football operations at Old Trafford, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe becoming a minority owner of the club.
United is also seeking to hire Dan Ashworth, the sporting director at Newcastle, who is currently on garden leave. Negotiations are underway with Wilcox, who joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer. The 53-year-old has experience as an academy director with Ciy and has been subject to United's approach.
Though Wilcox seems eager to come to United, there are issues regarding compensation with the Championship club. While United has offered a year's salary in compensation, Southampton are pushing for a larger package. The Red Devils are keen to have Wilcox onboard by summer and hope for a smooth resolution.
During Southampton's match against Ipswich, there were reports that Wilcox has resigned. If true, he would need to serve a 12-month notice period before joining a new role. Wilcox also has a positive relationship with Omar Berrada, United's incoming chief executive, from their time together at City.
