Demis Hassabis, the CEO of DeepMind, has gained recognition as one of the world's smartest CEOs, surpassing notable figures like Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Sundar Pichai. He started his journey as a video game AI coder and later became an AI researcher and entrepreneur.
Hassabis, born in North London, displayed exceptional talent from a young age, excelling in chess and becoming a master at the age of 13. He represented the University of Cambridge in chess tournaments and completed his studies ahead of schedule at Christ's College, Finchley.
DeepMind, under Hassabis' leadership, focuses on combining concepts from systems neuroscience with advancements in machine learning and computer technology to develop highly efficient learning strategies, contributing to the creation of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
In 2014, Google acquired DeepMind for £300 million ($498 million), and since then, DeepMind Health has been integrated into Google Health while retaining independence as an organization based in London. DeepMind achieved a profit of about 60.9 million pounds in 2022.
