With the implementation of CAA (2019), the Delhi Police have increased security precautions along with additional deployment of forces across sensitive areas in the national capital.
The Citizenship Amendment Act was brought in the year 2019, however, it was later put on hold after massive protests against it erupted in many parts of the country including Delhi.
Now with the notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs, implementing the amended law nationwide, the Delhi Police seems to have already tightened its operations. It has also been reported, that the police personnel hosted a flag march in the Jama Masjid area last night. The measures taken in light of the notification include intense patrolling and flag march by paramilitary forces in northeast Delhi, Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Nagar and other riot prone areas.
In view of the latest notification from the Home Ministry, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), M Harsha Vardhan in his statement said that the CAA has nothing to do with any Indian citizen and if someone is trying to spread rumor's or mislead people, the the police will take strict actions against them.
DCP (North-East) Joy Tirkey, while talking about the matter mentioned that an unfortunate incident happened in 2020 in the North East district during CAA protests but now they are ready to deal with miscreants, as reported by News9.
Earlier, in 2020, Delhi witnessed severe riots after the announcement of the CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens), which led to killing of 53 people and more than 500 people sustaining injuries as per the official numbers.
Since the earlier effort for the implementation of CAA in 2020,, the Jamia Millia Islamia University had become an epicenter of the anti-CAA protest. Yet again, Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and NSU(I) student organisations started protesting against the implementation of CAA inside the university campus.
After the news of the protest, Delhi Police swung into action by grounding a large number of troops in the area, especially around the university campus to ensure peace and security measures.
