Days after his erratic sugar levels were flagged, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was finally given a low dose of insulin in Tihar jail on Monday evening, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders said Tuesday.
According to sources, the medicine was administered after doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) told the jail authorities that it could be administered if the chief minister's blood sugar levels increased beyond 200 mg/dl.
Sources said Kejriwal's blood sugar level was found to be 217 at around 7 pm after which the insulin was administered. Earlier, doctors from AIIMS were consulted through video conferencing on April 20, as reported by IndianExpress.
Taking to 'X', AAP Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj posted, "Good news on Hanuman Jayanti. It has been learnt that finally the jail administration gave insulin to the Chief Minister for his increasing sugar level. Today the Chief Minister of the country's capital has to go to court even for insulin."
"Officers under the BJP and the Central Government say that all prisoners are the same. Do all Tihar prisoners go to court for insulin? Do all prisoners have to go to court for medical treatment? Do all prisoners have to spend a week on TV and in newspapers debating about insulin?" Bharadwaj asked.
A Delhi court had on Monday turned down Kejriwal's plea to consult a doctor daily via video conferencing to monitor his health and diabetes treatment, and ordered that a panel of doctors from AIIMS would look into his treatment, including administering insulin.
