Let's normalise not filming or taking pictures of friends when they're in a vulnerable situation and posting it on social media.
Many of our teens aren't fully aware of how taking pictures of their friends or filming them in a vulnerable situation (without their permission) and posting it on social media can deeply and negatively impact their lives. Not only can it impact their self-esteem, and embarrass them, but it can ruin their reputation depending on what has been posted. Plus, the internet has staying power... things that were innocently shared, (perhaps because our kids thought it was funny), can resurface months or even years later. Talk to your teen. Make sure they pause before they hit the record button on their phones and ask themselves, "Would I be okay if someone filmed me or took my picture in this situation and posted it on social media?" If the answer is "no," DON'T do it. If they post any pictures or video of friends, make sure they get their expressed permission.
