Wow 😳
Former Barcelona and Brazil right-back Dani Alves has received a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence for sexual assault, as ruled by a Spanish court. The incident occurred at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022. Initially, prosecutors sought a nine-year prison term, ten years of probation, and a €150,000 compensation order.
Alves was imprisoned without bail in January 2023. Throughout the investigation and trial, his testimony underwent multiple changes. Initially denying knowing the victim, he later claimed consensual sex with the victim.
Despite Alves' varying statements, the victim's account remained consistent until the Brazilian was convicted. Spanish authorities announced Alves as guilty on Thursday. The 40-year-old, last associated with Mexican club UNAM, had his contract terminated following his initial arrest in January 2023, marking the conclusion of his professional career.
