Controversy hit Arizona when a group of masked, armed men stood beside official ballot boxes to deter unlawful conduct.
However, though well-intentioned, these men instead caused more issues than they might have solved, as there are reports of people going to vote being filmed, followed, and harassed.
In a lawsuit challenging this type of conduct, a federal judge in Arizona ordered the absentee ballot box watches to stand at least 250 feet from the ballot boxes and they are not permitted to speak to or yell at voters unless spoken to first.
This is an awful scenario where people have taken things too far. Voter fraud is unacceptable, but so is voter intimidation. The judge was absolutely correct in striking a balance with fraud preventative measures and voting without fear.
