Ahead of the crucial Congress Working Committee (CWC) that is expected to take a call on the party chief, senior leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Karra has urged Rahul Gandhi to once again take up the responsibility.
"In my considered & unflinching opinion, in today's Congress Party, Gandhis are the true flag bearers of Congress ideals and Gandhian Philosophy. The only cementing force within," he tweeted.
"For me, like millions of others, Congress is Gandhis and Gandhis are Congress. The pivot, thus a rallying force. They inspire, thus can mobilize. They don't compromise & surrender on Indianism and it's ideals, thus invincible," added Karra.
He said Rahul Gandhi must come forward to lead and steer the Congress so that the flame of Indianism and the ray of hope does not dwindle.
Karra has repeatedly urged Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his resignation and return as the Congress President.
Karra, a founder member of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP), had joined the Congress in February 2017.
He had strongly opposed the PDP's alliance with the BJP and quit the party after Mehbooba Mufti turned down his advice to snap ties with the saffron party.
He had also alleged that the PDP-BJP alliance was implementing the RSS agenda in Jammu and Kashmir.
Karra even resigned as the Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, a seat he had won on the PDP ticket.
A strong contender for the post of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress President, Karra is a permanent invitee to the CWC, the grand old party's highest decision-making body.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi will chair the CWC meeting on Saturday. It is expected the organisational polls, including the election of the new party chief, current political situation in the country and upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur will be discussed at the meeting.
There is already a growing clamour for Rahul Gandhi to return as the Congress President given that his mother is unwell and also unwilling to continue on the post.
All eyes are on tomorrow's meeting to see if CWC ends the uncertainty at the top in Congress.
