Congress has suffered a big setback in Maharashtra. Senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan has decided to quit the party in the state. He sent his resignation to the Speaker. He has also announced to leave the primary membership of Congress. There is speculation that he may join Maharashtra's ruling BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance. In a letter to state Congress president Nana Patole, Chavan (65) said he was leaving the party. He also submitted his resignation as MLA to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar. It is noteworthy that a few days before Chavan left the Congress, senior Maharashtra Congress leaders Baba Siddiqui and Milind Deora had also left the party.
