Global climate change and material use are closely linked as Circular Economy practices contribute to mitigating climate change and increasing resilience. Chances of averting dangerous climate change can be maximised by moving to a circular economy, thereby allowing societies to satisfy the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Action. COP26 must lead a discussion with emphasis on this paradigm that allows member states to roll out ambitious plans to go circular.
Arguably, innovation to extend the lifespan of existing resources will not only curb emissions but also reduce social inequality and foster low-carbon growth. Governments and economic bodies have overlooked the vast potential of the circular economy and should re-engineer supply chains all the way back to the grassroots, where our resources originate, to keep ourselves from gobbling up natural resources superfluously.
