China Uses ‘Barrage Balloons’ To Protect Its Critical Infra From Missile, Drone Attacks
The balloons are known as barrage balloons, to intercept low and medium-altitude flying cruise missile strikes.
The gas-filled balloons are tethered to the ground and, when deployed in large numbers, make low-level flights challenging attacking aircraft, missiles, or helicopters dangerous.
They also complicate an adversary’s surveillance to photograph critical infrastructure by becoming visual obstacles.
