Chelsea 2-0 Spurs: Have Pochettino's Side Ended Tottenham's Champions League Hopes?
Chelsea's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur has helped the Blues in their quest for a UEFA Conference League spot. However, the Spurs on the other hand have suffered a massive blow in their hopes to finish in the top four.
Current PL Standings:
4 (UCL Spot) - Aston Villa - 67 pts
5 (UEL Spot) - Tottenham - 60 pts
6 (UECL Spot) - Man United - 54 pts
7 Newcastle - 53 pts
8 Chelsea - 51 pts
Owing to the loss to Chelsea, the Spurs have now lost three consecutive games in the Premier League. Tottenham have played one lesser fixture than Villa, but their last four games are against Liverpool, Burnley, Manchester City, and Sheffield United. Hence, their quest for a Champions League spot seems close to ending.
Chelsea on the other hand, have a good chance to qualify for the Europa League or atleast the Conference league. The Blues' final four fixtures are against West Ham, Nottingham, Brighton, and Bournemouth.
Sixth place will guarantee an European spot for Chelsea, however this also depends on the FA Cup final. If Man City beat Man United in the FA Cup Final, the sixth-placed team in the Premier League will qualify to the Europa League while the seventh-placed team will play the Conference League. If United win, they gain a confirmed spot in the UEFA Europa League for next season.
