After a series of poor performances, Chelsea finally severed ties with manager Graham Potter last night under mutual agreement. The English manager, who had taken reigns of the club back in September when the blues sacked former coach Thomas Tuchel suddenly, had been unable to show results despite constant support by the club’s board. Thus, many might opine that he had it coming. Brighton and Hove Albion’s manager Roberto de Zerbi is not one of those people though.
Many of us will know that Roberto took over charge of Brighton & Hove Albion after the club’s former manager Graham Potter left them for the Chelsea gig. The Italian gaffer expressed his sadness upon hearing the news of Potter being sacked. He said that he has a ready and stable team at Brighton, all thanks to the strong core that Potter had built.
‘I want to say thanks to Graham Potter," he said. "I have a team with a very good attitude and mentality. I am very sorry. It is bad news for the coaches.”
"I think you give too much importance to the coaches because the players are always the most important and I don’t like when coaches are sacked because the responsibility is not only with them.”
"The players, the club, it’s not very good news,” the manager concluded.
Roberto de Zerbi has done incredibly well so far as the manager of Brighton and Hove Albion. They are currently 6th on the points table with 43 points in 26 matches. They are way above both Liverpool and Chelsea. They have done immensely well, even compared to their overachieving last season, when they finished 9th on the points table with 51 points in 38 matches. Thus, many might argue that Robert de Zerbi is doing a better job at Brighton than Graham Potter had ever done.
