Brazil are the team to beat but the best team rarely win the World Cup which begs the question, have Brazil peaked too soon?
Personally I think Brazil are accurate favourites and given the choice, I would be backing them to lift the World Cup for a record sixth time.
The first half display versus South Korea was brutal. This team isn’t just full of skill and efficiency but it’s clinical when it matters. They’re displaying the ruthless edge all champions have and I’m loving watching them.
In typical Brazilian style the defenders are all reliable off the ball and creative on it - Thiago Silva with a wonderful assist last time out. In midfield, I love the idea of playing with one holding player alongside Paquetá as an 8 and Neymar as a 10. This combination oozes creativity. And then upfront the front 3 of Vini Jr, Richarlison and Raphinha compliment each other so very well. They all seem to be on the same page with direct running and clear patterns of play.
The biggest compliment I can give this team however is that they look like a club side. Most international teams look like they need more time on the training ground but this team clicks like the very best club teams. They press together, have a clear identity and they’re all on the same wave length which is what makes them such a joy to watch.
