The medicalization of transness categorizes being trans as a mental health illness, which it isn’t, it’s an identity.

It’s messed up how we need to be diagnosed with ‘gender identity disorder’ to get gender affirming care that gives us access to being who we fully are.

Getting therapy is a privilege, which means getting diagnosed (with something that isn’t a diagnosis to begin with) is disproportionately inaccessible to trans folks from intersecting marginalized identities.

Rather than labeling an identity as the problem, we need to address the barriers that exacerbate the mental distress that comes from not feeling at home within oneself.
