Maybe we're so influenced by Western ideas and festivals, that we have forgotten that except Valentine's Day, it's also Basant Panchami today.
And Basant Panchami mean the day we worship Goddess Saraswati.
For Bengalis, Saraswati Puja means Bengali's Valentine's Day! ♥️
Well, we Bengalis have a habit of doing things differently.
Coincidentally, this year's Valentine's Day and Saraswati Puja have fallen on the same day.
Every year in West Bengal, Saraswati Puja holds great anticipation for many young students in the state.
As Saraswati Puja is fondly called 'Bong's Valentine’s Day.' The day witnesses young couples throughout Bengal dressed in traditional attire, often donning shades of yellow, walking together hand in hand.
It is believed that Goddess blesses the text books, note pads, pens, pencils, reference books placed under the watchful eyes of the goddess and they then legitimately claim a day off from studies.
Hence, the young boys and girls get a chance to meet each other, away from studies and textbook, wearing traditional with the idea that love will blossom in their lives.
Being a Delhite, I could never experience Valentine's Day during Saraswati Puja in the city, but I surely do have memories of wearing a yellow saree, and giving my books to goddess Laxmi and praying for good marks. Maybe that's what love is right?
Praying for something you really want! For me it has always been my studies and career.
But maybe, this year Goddess Laxmi wanted some romance to be there too in the city of Delhi, which usually doesn't celebrate Valentine's Day on Laxmi Puja.
