Barcelona are considering promoting Rafael Marquez to first-team manager if they need to replace Xavi this summer. The Spaniard had confirmed earlier this year that he will step down, despite calls for him to stay.
After analysing their options, Barça have reportedly decided not to search for a replacement for Xavi, focusing on Marquez instead. Marquez, a former player at Camp Nou, currently manages Barca Atletic. While Barcelona still hope to keep Xavi, they are aware it may not be possible.
As per SPORT via 90min, Barcelona have ruled out high-cost managers like Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi. Hansi Flick is considered a feasible option but has drawbacks as he has never managed in Spain. Marquez's familiarity with the club's academy is another positive to boost the Mexican's resume.
Club president Joan Laporta is still trying to persuade Xavi to stay before the club decides to promote Marquez. Barcelona's priority is to keep Xavi with Marquez being considered as a backup plan if needed.
