Arsenal just cannnot seem to get it right when it comes to appointing the right player
for the role of captaincy, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is found guilty of enjoying his life a little too much
during the course of the season.
Arsenal's captain woes have dated long back to 2006, when a certain Frenchman named Patrik Viera left the club.
All the captains that have followed in the subsequent years - be it William Gallas, Fabregas, Van Persie, Mertsacker,
Kosielny, Xhaka and even Arteta himself have faced a certain downfall, pushed to leave or have just been
stripped off the armband. So, choosing the next talisman to lead this young generation of Arsenal's
upcoming talent is going to be tricky. Here are the top candidates who might be suited for the role.
Bukayo Saka
From being the breakout English star to a consistent performer, Saka's rise has been steady.
It's widely known that Saka has been a excellent person and is loved by everyone at the club but will
that be enough to give him the armband though?
Ben White
Having played an instrumental role in Leeds' promotion push in 2019-20 season and having established
himself at Brighton as a quality center half, Ben or 'Benjamin' - as he likes to be called, has had quite
a resurgence after his shaky start to life at the Emirates. He could well be Arteta's go to man to solve the leadership crisis.
Kieran Tierney
Having played for Arsenal for better part of three seasons now, the former Scotland captain has
established himself as the no nonsense first choice left back for Arteta. Having considerably more
experience than his peers might as well be the tipping factor in him getting the armband.
Granit Xhaka
He might have been stripped off the captaincy earlier after being booed of the pitch by his own supporters, and having almost left the club for Roma in the summer, the Swiss international Xhaka has found a resurgence this season under Arteta. Having played more than 700 minutes despite nursing an injury, he might as well have the outside shot at wearing the armband again.
