Gabriel Jesus flourished at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, bagging an incredible assist and an arguably better goal that sealed the victory for the Gunners on a difficult night.
Although it wasn’t a dominant performance, it is not easy to come away with three points against European royalty, but of course there is room for improvement.
Player ratings:
Raya: 5.5 - only achieved 58% passing accuracy and looked shaky when called into action, opting for a bizarre punch that could’ve ended up in his own net
Tomiyasu: 8 - looks stellar in a role that would, on paper, seem rather unorthodox to him; he made everything look easy and wasn’t dribbled past once
Gabriel and Saliba: 7 - didn’t have to get too involved, but when they were they did the right things and were reliable as usual
White: 6.5 - was pretty much non-existent going forward and aiding the right hand side of attack, which nullifies Ødegaard and Saka, but was defensively good other than terrible marking on set pieces
Jorginho: 6 - wasn’t as shaky as we have seen in previous matches, however, his reluctance to pass forwards and in between the lines is frustrating considering he has the ability to do so
Rice: 8.5 - no more words to describe him, constant anchor in this Arsenal side recently
Ødegaard: 6 - in a bad run of form at the minute, but it must be said the entire right hand side of Arsenal’s attack has not looked as fluid as it did last season
Martinelli: 8.5 - deserved his debut goal, never stopped running
Jesus: 9 - MOTM performance, world class assist and goal
Saka: 6.5 - quite a quiet night for the usual performer, but that follows the theme of the entire right hand side. Very involved defensively though, contributing the most tackles of the game (4)
