After a frustrating 8 year spell of draws and losses, Arsenal finally prevailed over a competitive Manchester City side in the Premier League, even without the influential Bukayo Saka.
Stellar performances across the back denied Haaland, who didn’t have a single shot the entire game and lost possession 8 times against resilient Arsenal defenders. Despite the entire team putting in an excellent shift to earn the victory, certain players stood out more than others at the Emirates.
Player ratings:
Raya: 5 very shaky performance unfortunately for the Spaniard, who was lucky not to be caught out.
Zinchenko: 7.5 solid defensively, concentrated well throughout the game.
Gabriel & Saliba: 9.5 they work as one at this point, colossal defenders. Both MOTM contenders.
White: 8 similar to Zinchenko, a nutmeg on Doku sealed a good performance on his Birthday.
Rice: 9.5 MOTM performance, 1 goal line block, 3 interceptions and 90% pass accuracy speaks for itself. He was everywhere tonight for the Gunners.
Jorginho: 6 was not a standout performer, didn’t do much wrong though.
Ødegaard: 8 aside from some awry shots, the Captain put in a spirited shift for Arsenal tonight and controlled midfield.
Trossard: 5 unfortunately, not really in the game and 45 minutes even seemed too many.
Nketiah: 5 again, not effective in games like these and only had 19 touches in 75 minutes.
Jesus: 7.5 seems much better out wide than central, worked relentlessly hard for the victory.
Subs:
Martinelli: 9.5 even after just returning from injury, Martinelli changed the dynamic of the game and ultimately got the winning goal for the Gunners.
Tomiyasu: 8 (relative to the time he played), didn’t put a foot wrong and was crucial in the buildup to the goal.
Havertz: 8.5 (relative to the time he played), perfect layoff for Martinelli, showed his attributes as a 9.
Partey: 8.5 again perfect in the buildup for the goal, kept the tempo well.
