Aqib Ilyas Named Oman Captain for T20 World Cup
Oman has appointed Aqib Ilyas as their new captain ahead of the T20 World Cup in June, replacing Zeeshan Maqsood. The squad for the tournament features consistent selections, with only Shoaib Khan being a new addition compared to the recent ACC Premier Cup.
The batting lineup is set to be anchored by Kashyap Prajapati and Naseem Khushi, with Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood following at No. 3 and 4 respectively. Bilal Khan will lead the bowling attack, supported by pacers Kaleemullah and Fayyaz Butt, along with left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmad.
Expressing his enthusiasm about leading the team, Ilyas stated, "I am truly honoured to be entrusted with the captaincy. It's a huge responsibility, and I aim to lead the team to many victories. We are preparing rigorously for the World Cup, and the recent ACC Premier Cup has provided us with invaluable preparation."
Oman, part of Group B alongside Australia, England, Namibia, and Scotland, will kick off their campaign against Namibia on June 2 in Barbados.
