Amritpal who is considered as a separatist leader and Khalistani sympathiser has remained in news due to his history of violence.
Just a few months after he was appointed as chief of Waris Punjab De, his terror began.
On 9 December,2022 his followers vandalised a gurudwara in Biharipura and then later on 13 December in Jalandhar.
Besides this he has been accused of many atrocities, in February 2023 a man complained in an Ajnala police station stating that he was kidnapped and beaten by the associates of Amritpal.
He has also tried to threaten Amit Shah saying that he will meet the same fate as Indira Gandhi who was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguard in 1984.
After escaping police several times he finally got arrested and this would have evoked vengeance in mind of his supporters and this can impact Punjab in many ways.
But for reducing the overall level of violence in the region, his arrest was significant.
Furthermore, it is a major achievement by the Punjab police and will be considered as an imperative step in the ongoing struggle for peace and stability in Punjab.
Although, it is too early to predict anything but there are chances of some chaos which can be created by Amritpal Singh’s supporters. Hence keeping an eye on all the activities is required.
