Ah! The Rain
——————
Without much heraldry in the sky,
Just an odd rumble passing by,
The rain came silently,
like a sigh,
From heavens, for an earth gone dry.
The breeze turned playful, cool and gay,
Radiating smells from a freshly-wet clay,
And the birds around- from cuckoo to jay,
Sang new tunes to welcome the rainy day.
The trees were happy- their foliage so green,
Wet from the shower-all spruced-up and clean,
They ask the grey clouds- where have you been?
The season so passes but you were not to be seen.
The clouds aloft are somber and still,
The delay, they say, was not by our will,
The winds were wayward- drove us up the hill,
But now that we are here, dear earth, you can have your fill.
