The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to "gherao" Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence on Tuesday, a plan which Delhi minister Gopal Rai had informed earlier.
However, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been imposed around the PM's residence which bars protests from taking place, a Delhi police officer, reported news agency PTI.
Additionally, security has been beefed up around PM Modi's residence as well as several other parts of the national capital. "Robust security arrangements have been made. We have installed layers of security to maintain law and order in the area," a Delhi Police officer told PTI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Devesh Kumar Mahla said speaking on AAP's protest, "No permission has been granted (to AAP for protest).
We have made sufficient deployment at the PM residence and Patel Chowk metro station to maintain law and order. No march or demonstration will be allowed. No routes diversions done."
Security has been increased with the deployment of police outside Patel Chowk metro station, in view of AAP's PM residence 'gherao' protest against the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in liquor policy case, reported news agency ANI.
On Monday, leaders and supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) changed their social media profile pictures to one depicting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal behind bars. This action was taken in solidarity with Kejriwal following his arrest in the excise policy scam case. The caption accompanying these profile pictures reads "'Modi Ka Sabse Bada Dar Kejriwal' (Modi's biggest fear Kejriwal)". The AAP initiated this social media campaign to garner support for protecting the constitution and democracy in the nation.
