The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is admant and will perform prayers and hold a group fasting ('Samuhik Upwas') event at Jantar Mantar on April 7 in protest against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in Tihar jail in the alleged liquor policy scam.
Addressing a press conference Wednesday, AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai said, "If you want to support Kejriwal in this fight, then participate in the nationwide fast on April 7. A collective fast will be observed at Jantar Mantar where all AAP ministers, MLAs, MPs, councilors, officials, and workers of Delhi will participate."
"People who are against the central government's dictatorship, who want to protect the country's democracy and Constitution, should participate... (We ask) students, youth, farmers, businessmen, social organisations and NGOs to take part in the programme at 11 am," he added.
If one can't make it to the event, Rai urged them to pray and hold the "upwas" from their homes, blocks and streets or listen to the devotional song 'Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram' on YouTube. "Together, we will pray for Kejriwal to receive strength and fight against tyranny while he is in jail. We can fight to bring the truth to light...," he said.
Rai said people can send pictures and videos of themselves observing a fast to 'Kejriwalkoashirwad.com', which will be launched soon. "This fight is not Kejriwal's personal battle. This is our fight to save the country... If you believe that the central government, in its arrogance of power, wants to silence everyone's voice and spread terror in everyone's hearts, then join this samuhik upwas...," he said.
Asked about the status of a WhatsApp number launched a couple of days ago by Kejriwal's wife Sunita, Rai said, "That number has crashed and is now closed. So, we have started this online platform, Kejriwalkoashirwad.com."
The minister further said, "After seeing the strength of the INDIA rally on Sunday, the BJP is under pressure because there is a unified voice in the hearts of the people that the Modi government is crossing all limits. Dictatorship is at its peak in the country... we will take this fight across the country..."
