A wave of joy prevails in Chandigarh after the Supreme Court on Tuesday gave a historic verdict on the Chandigarh Mayor election. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has ordered that the 8 ballot papers declared invalid in the Mayor elections will be considered valid. After which Kuldeep Kumar of Aam Aadmi Party was declared mayor.
The bench said that the petitioner had got 12 votes. Eight votes were wrongly declared invalid. Later these eight votes were found in favor of the petitioner. In this way, by adding eight votes, the petitioner has 20 votes. Therefore, AAP councilor and petitioner Kuldeep Kumar is declared elected to the post of Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The decision of Presiding Officer Anil Masih to declare BJP candidate the winner is invalid.
