There could be varying opinions on this matter but personally, as a football fan, I have never felt more disconnected with the sport as a whole especially after it resumed after the Covid pandemic last year.
As weird as it sounds but I along with a fair few number of people can't make out the difference between games played in the last 2.5 seasons. They all seem to have happened yesterday or just before a few weeks back and it honestly feels like an overload of games thrown at once on some occasions.
Not only some fans feel saturated but most players playing in the top division of their country and for their national teams, haven't got a meaningful break ever since football resumed in 2020. Their fitness patterns and resting regimes kind of look to have been unsettled with the manner they're over or underplayed by their respective managers.
There was a time where I couldn't wait for International breaks to get finished until the league action resumes but right now the postponement of games especially in the Premier League seem like a blessing in disguise for me as I have a break to take my mind off footballing stuff and have a detox from those overload of games.
With football governing bodies coming with more ludicrous plans of introducing newer tournaments and formats at multiple venues, one can only hope and pray for those who would play in these tournaments and hope that they won't get injured.
With the ever growing toxicity on Social media and with more and more off-field allegations about footballers revealed to people, the game for people like me is losing its beauty and love. And it genuinely scares me that it has had to come to this.
Maybe Eric Cantona had a point in that cryptic speech he made back in 2018.
