An unprecedented phenomena that has left scientists perplexed was seen on camera by NASA as a portion of the sun's northern pole broke off.

As per news reports, in a video, a sizable plasma filament, or electrified gas, is shown erupting from the sun before dividing and circling in a "vast polar vortex."

While puzzled, scientists think the prominence is connected to the sun's magnetic field reversal, which happens once every solar cycle.
