After Sunday's 2-0 loss to Rennes for Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi sprinted off the field. Given how petulant he was being, it is understandable why he may be miffed.
His PSG team had just been soundly defeated by a team that was supposedly inferior to them, putting on a lifeless performance against a team that was 16 points below them in the Ligue 1 standings.
The Parisians also never truly participated in the game. Early on, Kylian Mbappe had a few chances, but veteran goaltender Steve Mandanda twice matched them.
There are a few possible reasons for such a loss. Let’s look at 3 for now.
#1. Lionel Messi could not perform well
Perhaps his thoughts are already in Argentina. The World Cup champion was selected to play for the national team once more, and he performed as though he were physically and psychologically in Ezeiza with his Argentina teammates.
Messi performed below average in this situation. After the opening 15 minutes, he dropped the ball a few times and only truly appeared interested in passing to Mbappe.

By the time the game was over, everything seemed a little depressing, with Messi leaving quickly after the final whistle. After that, Buenos Aires.
