England won the 2019 Cricket World Cup in one of the most controversial way in the history of the game. But things are completely changed in this edition as defending champions lying at the last spot in the points table.
However, there are so many reasons for this catastrophic reign but we will look at the key reasons for the same,
1) Batsmen failing to deliver: English batting line-up is said to be the most destructive in the world cricket. However, no one has delivered the same. The opening pair Bairstow and Malan has put up only one 50 runs stand against Bangladesh. Apart from that Root, Livingston, Captain Buttler have all failed to score runs.Only once in the six matches they have able to cross 300 runs mark. They just kept on attacking instead of building partnership even after losing wickets.
2) Absence of Ben Stokes brilliance: Hero of the previous edition and England's star all-rounder Ben Stokes missed the initial three games for his side. Since then he failed miserably with the bat scoring just 5 runs against the South Africa and a 10 ball duck against India. However, his 43 runs knock wasn't enough to take his side home against Sri Lanka
3) Bowlers not clicking: England's bowling assault has also been a major stumbling block in their quest to reclaim the World Cup. Their bowling attack only got one wicket against New Zealand and they conceded 399 against South Africa. Apart from Reece Topley, the remaining bowlers looked mediocre and continued to lose runs. To make matters worse for England, Topley was forced out of the event owing to an injury sustained during England's game against Proteas.
With 2025 champions trophy qualification on the cards the Englishmen must do some magic to ensure their participation. They have to win next three games with significant margin in orders to finish in the top 7.
